I am looking at Wilhelm Sasnal to explore the function of the painted image opposed to a photo image. I think the use of photos is to enhance our memory of a place or moment. The painted image prompts our senses through association with Material being tactial and gives atmospheric possibilities. The camera is Sasnal’s source image he uses minimalism and abstraction to transform these images into powerful and poetic pictures. Sasnal subjects are from architectural structures, organic/plant forms and portraiture.
